The Lead Cloud Data Warehouse (CDW) Engineer in Data Assets Management and Data Engineering (DAM) is fundamental for Roche to achieve this vision and is focused on overseeing CDW engineering and corresponding system architecture to effectively and efficiently deliver information to enable all business needs through our central cloud data warehouse technology.

The Lead CDW Engineer is a member of the DAM lead engineering team and contributes to and implements the best practices on CDW engineering for the Roche GPS organization, to create a data-driven backbone, powering cutting edge digital solutions.

The Lead CDW Engineer is accountable for shaping the data & analytics engineering that critically enables digital operations across different affiliates and applications. As such, the Lead CDW Engineer will play a key role in driving digital transformation for Roche and its affiliates.

The Lead CDW Engineer will lead a global team focused on developing the data management solution, guiding corresponding engineering efforts and ensuring data availability for business usage.

This team is responsible for delivering data & insights for broader Roche Affiliates, maintaining data quality, leading data enhancement initiatives to meet business needs, and shaping data consumption for streamlined operations and data analytics. The team also serves as a center of excellence for engineering best practices across Roche affiliates, working regularly with other functions across Roche, IT, and other stakeholders.

Required experience and qualifications:

Minimum Qualification:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related technical field or equivalent practical experience

Experience as a DBA

Experience in data processing using traditional and distributed systems (e.g SQL, Spark, Airflow)

Experience designing data models and data warehouses and using SQL database management systems (Redshift experience is a plus)

Experience with dbt

Is familiar with traditional DW relational concepts (Dimensions, Facts, star schema, snowflake, SCDs)

Git knowledge is a must (CI/CD experience is a plus)

Experience with DevOps & DataOps

Understands the fundamentals of distributed data warehousing

Python and jinja experience is a plus

Understanding the Data Vault modeling technique is a plus

Knowledge of the Pharma Commercial Data landscape is a plus

People management skills

Preferred Qualification:

Advanced degree in engineering or technical field of study

dbt contributor

Experience writing and maintaining EL(T) which operate on a variety of structured and unstructured sources

Experience in SRE and operations

Affinity to master data management and best practice in data governance and data catalog methodologies

Experience in software development
