Job description

We are looking to hire an experienced Light-Ends Product Desk Analyst to join our Market Research Team based in Geneva to work in close cooperation with our trading desk.

The Market Analysis team collects, interprets and transmits in real time relevant information and analysis to inform the trading desks, the research team, and the broader Trading & Shipping division of market and fundamental developments of interest.

TotalEnergies installed its European trading hub across in Geneva, which now bring together very large teams around trading activities: TotalEnergies Trading & Shipping (T&S) and TotalEnergies Gas and Power (TGP).

T&S is the trading company in charge of all physical trading and shipping of crude oil and refined products including biofuels on behalf of the TotalEnergies. It has been a major and active participant all over the supply chain as well as on the derivatives paper market in order to manage market risk.

What you will do

  • Reporting to our Products Analysis Manager (T&S), your main missions will be to:
  • Manage data used in balance forecasts (supply/demand/trade): update data in the relevant files used in the production of the balances forecasts by country / region.
  • This involves making use of extensive data resources from consultants, international / government agencies, specialized data vendors and internally generated data.
  • Track refining activity: track country/regional refinery runs turnaround activity, and push data to the global refining analyst in Geneva.
  • Maintain / develop data visualisation dashboards: Maintain existing data visualisation dashboards (Power BI) and develop new dashboards with the evolving needs of the trading desk and the broader research group.
  • Maintain / develop forecasting tools: aide in the maintenance and development balance forecasting tools
  • Disseminate Desk Analysis: through dedicated Microsoft TEAMs forums and email alerts, disseminate external market analysis, desk view changes and market news putting these developments in a regional / global context for trading desks to act with agility and react in timely manner to changes in market conditions.
  • Relay analysis produced in other locations: ensure local awareness of the analysis produced by desk analysts in other regions.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests: respond to ad-hoc informational requests from the trading desks.

Context and environment

  • Fast-paced, dynamic and international trading environment with time-sensitive activities, there is a strong imperative to react quickly and be pro-active in responding to informational demands from the trading desks, other business lines with TotalEnergies and the broader research group.
  • You will be joining a multi-cultural team (Geneva, Houston and Singapore) where the sharing of ideas, knowledge, expertise and collaboration is the root of a collective success.

Candidate profile

  • You hold a Master degree in economics, finance, business or a related engineering degree - a specialisation in energy or commodities is an advantage.
  • You have at least 3 years of experience with an oil trading company, a consultancy or government agency where you developed strong numerical and analytical skills to process large amounts of information and data. Naphtha knowledge is an advantage.
  • You have strong drafting, communication and presentational skills in English with an emphasis on synthesis and succinctness.
  • You are proficient in either Bloomberg or Reuters Eikon terminal.
  • You do have strong knowledge of Microsoft office suite and Power BI and programming skills in VBA and Python. Knowledge of SQL would be considered as an advantage.
  • Working in our team requires entrepreneurial spirit, strong analytical and interpersonal skills, and the ability to learn new skills quickly in a fast-paced and exciting work environment.
